Veronica Butler is InnoEngine’s first intern and an undergraduate researcher at Western Kentucky University, where she explores how bottom-up community solutions strengthen participation and trust in democratic systems. Through the Mahurin Honors College, she is pursuing a BA in Mandarin Chinese, International Affairs, and Political Science, with a certificate in Strategic Communications.

As a researcher with the WKU International Public Opinion Lab, Butler conducts grant-funded research on changing political perspectives, democratic resilience, and youth civic engagement. Her work has been published in The Diplomat. As a Fellow with the International Youth Think Tank, she contributed to The Handbook for Innovative Democracy and Charta 25.

A Benjamin A. Gilman scholar, she brings cross-cultural experience in China and Taiwan to her work on public opinion and civic participation. She was recognized as a cultural envoy to Wenzhou, China, in 2024 and later studied abroad through the Chinese Language Flagship Program at Tamkang University.

Butler is deeply engaged in the Bowling Green community through the inaugural DowntownBGKY Ambassadors Academy and WKU Spirit Masters. She became interested in InnoEngine through the BG2050 project and now supports data analysis and community-focused innovation.
